Most people who want to get a motorcycle have a particular model in mind when they go to get their first motorcycle. However, that fancy bike you are about to buy may not be the best one for you. There are many things you should take into consideration when you are getting your very first motorcycle.

One thing you will need to decide is what will you be using it for. Will it be for cross country travels, joy rides, commutes, or for stunts and tricks? If you are looking for a sports bike that will let you ride like a racer, you will want to look at what sports bike will be best for you as a beginner. The Kawasaki Ninja 650R or the Suzuki SV650S are considered to be the best bikes for beginners who want lots of speed and power but easy handling. For those who just want a motorcycle so you can enjoy the wind in your hair (through your helmet of course) then you will want to look at a Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Custom, Honda VT750C Spirit, or a Suzuki GZ250 Marauder.

When you are looking at Motorcycles and trying to decide which you want, take into consideration the size and weight of the bike. Heavier and bigger bikes will be difficult to control at first, but if you are using it as a cruising bike, the weight will make it a more stable bike while on a highway setting. Bikes that are lighter will allow you to lean in during corners and turns with confidence, where as a new rider with a heavier bike may not be able to keep it stable while leaning in, creating a dangerous situation.

Kind of going along with the weight and size of the bike, you will want to find one that will be a good fit for your body. As stated before, if a bike is too heavy for you, keeping it stable on turns could become a problem. While looking at bikes, ask if you can test drive it, and if not that then at least sit on it. You may find that a particular model that you wanted is very uncomfortable or has no support. There are so many different bikes with different riding styles so you want to find a riding style that will fit you, instead of you trying to fit a riding style.

Of course you will also want to keep in mind the price. If you find the perfect bike but the price is way more that you are able to pay, ask if there is a cheaper model that has the same features, or if there is a Used Motorcycle that is the same. Buying a used motorcycle can help lower the initial cost of a motorcycle. No one said that buying a used motorcycle is bad; it’s just a well loved bike and can be a great option for a new rider because it is already worn in from the previous owner. Whether you decide to get a new or Used Bike is up to you. However, what isn’t up to you is having a motorcycle driving license and insurance. It is against the law to drive any motorized vehicle without a license or insurance.
